There is no company, no spring and nothing for sale — what is real is the artwork: nineteen can editions and ten glass bottles, each with its accent, its flavour line and its story, carried over whole and kept here as a codex. Every figure on this page describes the design, not a drink.

The sources — and these are real
Where the world’s fresh water actually is.
Everything above this line is a design fiction. This is not. Fifty rivers and fifty lakes, drawn from the same public-domain Natural Earth survey ATLAS uses, ranked by a figure computed from the very shapes on the map — great-circle length along each river’s drawn centreline, spherical area inside each lake’s drawn ring. No tile server, no map provider, no key: the map is drawn here, on a canvas, from coordinates that ship with the page.
On top of that survey sits a third layer of a different kind: the amber diamonds are bottled-water sources — the springs, wells and aquifers the famous bottles actually come out of. That layer is curated, not measured, and the page says so everywhere it appears, because “famous” is a judgement and no survey defines it.
A fourth layer, off until you ask for it, is the water you cannot see: groundwater — aquifers, reservoirs, geysers, hot and karst springs, oases and the qanats that have watered dry country for three thousand years. That one is harvested: every mark is a real Wikidata object at its own recorded coordinate, and the rule that chose it is arithmetic rather than judgement.

What this ranks, exactly. It ranks what the 1:50m survey draws, which is not the same as the world. A river is measured only across the segments carrying its name, so the Nile — split in this survey into Nile, Albert Nile and Victoria Nile — measures short, and the Amazon appears under its Portuguese name, Amazonas. The Caspian is absent from the lake layer entirely. Generalised centrelines run shorter than real channels, so every river figure here is a floor, not a length. The lake areas are closer: Superior computes to 84,840 km² against a surveyed 82,100, Baikal to 32,074 against 31,722. Nothing here is a discharge or a volume, because this survey carries neither and inventing them is what the fiction upstairs is for.
What the curated layer is, and what was actually checked. The register holds bottled-water sources. It is a shortlist, not a survey: there is no dataset of famous water, so somebody decided, and that somebody should be visible rather than hidden behind a number. What could be checked mechanically was — every coordinate is tested against the same public-domain Natural Earth country polygons ATLAS draws from, and a point that did not fall inside the country it claimed is not in the file. Each entry carries the tier it survived, printed with the entry rather than in a footnote. The gaps are deliberate. Only some carry a bottling year and fewer a mineral figure, because a guessed number and a measured one look identical once they are set in the same typeface. And nothing here is ranked: the list is ordered by country, since there is no such measurement as the best water and pretending otherwise is what the fiction upstairs is for.
What the harvested layer is, and where it is thin. The groundwater layer comes from Wikidata. Each class is cut by a rule, and the rule is the point. Aquifers, geysers, karst springs, oases and qanats ship whole: the classes are small enough that choosing among them would be an editorial act. That is also the most striking thing here — there are thirteen aquifers on Earth that Wikidata records with a coordinate, so the world’s great groundwater bodies are almost entirely unmapped as objects, and this layer shows that rather than padding it. Reservoirs are the largest by published capacity, but only where the figure survived a test: Wikidata stores those volumes in twelve different units — and two that are not volumes at all — so every claim was converted to cubic metres and divided by the reservoir’s own surface area. A mean depth outside 0.5–200 m means the pair cannot both be right, which cut 212 claims including one reservoir filed at 10,000 km³, sixty times Kariba. Springs and hot springs are ranked by how many Wikipedias carry an article — a notability proxy, named as one on every entry, because 76,972 springs carry a coordinate and nothing ranks them honestly. Every coordinate was then tested against the same Natural Earth country polygons used above; where Wikidata’s country tag disagreed with its own coordinate the polygon won, which moved a Ukrainian reservoir out of Belarus. Each entry links to the Wikidata item it came from, because a harvested figure you cannot trace is a figure you cannot check. And look at where the marks are. They crowd into Europe and Iran and thin out across Africa and central Asia, which is not where the world’s groundwater is — it is where the people writing the encyclopedia live. A harvested layer inherits its source’s blind spots, and this one is a map of attention as much as of water.

Still or sparkling is the only choice made after the source. No additives, no flavourings, no exceptions — the editions differ on the outside only.
The spec sheet — designed, not measured
What the label would say.
Read this first. Every figure below was written by a designer, not returned by a laboratory. No water was drawn, bottled or tested; there is no batch, no assay and no certificate. These are the numbers the fictional brand would print on its can, set the way a real spec sheet is set because that is the design problem — and labelled here so nobody mistakes the typography for evidence.
What is deliberately not here. The original page carried an ISO 17025 accreditation, a PFAS figure in parts per trillion, a twelve-stage purity protocol, non-detect results across four hundred parameters, carbon-negative logistics and conservation partnerships. Every one of those named an authority, a measurement or an obligation that does not exist, and none of them survived the rebuild. A spec sheet for an imaginary drink can be beautiful; it cannot borrow a laboratory’s voice. The only figures on this page that are measurements rather than design are in the sources map, and they are measurements of rivers and lakes, not of this.

What did not come with them: the checkout, the shipping terms and the laboratory claims. None of those had anything behind them, and a fiction is better company when it says so.
